London’s most anticipated theatre openings: 2 July-8 July

Our Monday morning digest of new theatre the Stagedoor community is most excited about

1. Flesh and Bone

3 July — 21 July 2018, Soho Theatre Upstairs

Topping our list this week are Fringe First winners Unpolished Theatre. This show, focused on the wickedly eloquent voices of the residents of an East London Tower Block, was developed inside the National Theatre Studio and is back in London after an acclaimed international tour.

2. The Lehman Trilogy

4 July — 22 September 2018, National Theatre (Lyttelton)

Theatrical megastars Simon Russell Beale, Adam Godley and Ben Miles are directed by Sam Mendes in this story of American success. This is the story of a family and a company that changed the world, told in three parts on a single evening, from the 1844 arrival of a young Bavarian man in New York to the bankruptcy of financial titan that triggered the Great Recession.

3. A Monster Calls

7 July — 25 August 2018, Old Vic

Patrick Ness’s piercing novel is brought to The Old Vic stage in a powerful new adaptation by visionary director Sally Cookson.

4. The One

5 July — 25 August 2018, Soho Theatre

Excited to see a second Soho show made the cut this week! This production is a revival of the award-winning debut play of Vicky Jones, the writer behind the massively popular Touch and Fleabag.

Harry and Jo are up all night drawing the battle lines of their relationship with sex, violence and Wotsits. A viciously funny and daring play, The One invites you into the world of a couple trapped in a destructive and violent cycle of love and lust.

5. It Happened in Key West

4 July — 18 August 2018, Charing Cross Theatre

Funny, surprising, sentimental, and heartwarming — this is like no musical you have ever seen. This is the true 1930’s story of an x-ray technician who finally meets the girl he has been envisioning and desperately seeking since he was a teen, only to diagnose her with tuberculosis.
